German company HelloFresh acquires Boulder-based Green Chef

HelloFresh, with U.S. operations based in New York, will now offer the largest selection of meal plans for consumers, the company said, adding Green Chef’s organic vegan and gluten-free menus. The combination positions the company to leverage HelloFresh’s scale and resources to drive further growth.

“Our customers are at the center of our thinking when it comes to offering great dinner experiences. Green Chef has a groundbreaking approach to its organic menus and will be the perfect addition to HelloFresh’s meal plans,” Tobias Hartmann, president for North America at HelloFresh, said in a prepared statement. “HelloFresh will now offer the most customized meal choices to customers and we are excited to welcome Green Chef’s talented team and production resources to HelloFresh.”

Michael Joseph, CEO of Green Chef, said the company’s status as the “first certified organic and gluten-free meal kit company in the U.S.” reflects “an important distinction to consumers who are committed to eating organically or are sensitive to gluten. With HelloFresh, we will only further amplify our mission to give consumers across the country a simple way to eat and live healthier.”

The acquisition of Green Chef will drive synergies for operations, logistics, and procurement. HelloFresh will gain its first office and production facility in Colorado and integrate Green Chef into its operations and culinary teams.

HelloFresh operates in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Australia, Austria, Switzerland and Canada. The company was founded in November 2011 in Berlin and went public in November 2017 on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in Germany. HelloFresh has offices in New York, Berlin, London, Amsterdam, Zurich, Sydney and Toronto.
